No matter what?s for dinner tonight, yes, you would like fries with that. But they?re not going to be soggy, greasy, or pumped full of enough sodium to bloat you like a puffer fish.
These alterna-fries, made from veggies you won?t find at a drive-thru, are simple. Start by slicing sticks measuring roughly a half-inch by 3 inches. Then follow the instructions below and bake in a preheated 425?F oven.
Zucchini fries
In a small bowl, whisk an egg. In another bowl, mix ? cup breadcrumbs with one teaspoon of Italian seasoning. Dunk sticks in egg, then breadcrumbs to coat. Bake for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through, until crispy.
Serve with: Marinara sauce
Butternut fries
Before you slice your butternut, peel it. Coat fry sticks with a little olive oil and salt in a bowl, lay on a baking sheet, and bake for about 30 minutes, turning halfway through, or until the edges start to look brown. For a spicier version, sprinkle a little cayenne, too, before you bake.
Serve with: Maple syrup mixed with mayonnaise in equal parts (trust me here)
Carrot fries
Two ingredients! And not just for bunnies. Sprinkle with salt, lay on a baking sheet, and bake for about 30 minutes, turning halfway through.
Serve with: Ranch
